'Harmony and Heritage' The Self-Accompanied Recital Series Continues

Writer: Lucy FarrimondLucy Farrimond

This past weekend was packed with wonderful music and lasting memories. I returned to 'Sophie's Barn', Chacombe, Oxfordshire for the third time to perform my self-accompanied recital programme "Harmony and Heritage." During the concert, I sang and played favourites from the English song and aria repertoire, with composers including Britten, Quilter and Novello.

This concert was organised to support Sophie's Silver Lining Trust, a charity dedicated to helping young people in the performing arts achieve their educational dreams. I am especially grateful for the trust's generosity, which was instrumental in funding my postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in 2021.

'Sophie's Barn' is a very special place indeed. Its intimate setting allows for a deep connection between performers and audiences and I certainly felt the warmth and encouragement from those present. I was very lucky to be joined not only by fellow Chetham's alum and trombonist, Michaias, but also my parents who surprised me by driving down from Standish, Wigan.

After the recital, I explored the stunning Cotswolds for the first time, visiting my cousin in Stow on the Wold. The charming streets and lush rolling hills provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation after a day filled with performances!

After an inspiring weekend filled with music and family, I returned home to the city feeling recharged. Thank you to everyone who supported and attended the recital. Here’s to more harmonious moments ahead!
