More about me:

British lyric soprano Lucy Farrimond has performed at esteemed venues throughout the UK and abroad, including: The Royal Albert Hall, The Bridgewater Hall, Snape Maltings, The Stoller Hall and The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Paris. Featuring on both major television and radio (BBC, ITV, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3), Lucy has been described as a “rising star soprano”. At the age of 21, Lucy made her BBC Proms Solo Debut in Haydn's 'The Creation' at The Royal Albert Hall, with the 'BBC Philharmonic'; a performance which earned her a glowing review in ‘The Guardian’. Hailing from the North West of England, Lucy is an alumna of the ‘Royal Northern College of Music’, where she studied under the tutelage of internationally renowned soprano Jane Irwin.

Why Support The Project?

SUPPORTING AN EXCITING, UPCOMING OPERA SINGER:

In supporting this album, you will be supporting an exciting, upcoming performer. Representing the North West, Lucy hopes to ‘even the playing field’ in the world of opera - a notably southern dominated industry. The pursuit and success in such a career will hopefully inspire other young musicians from the area.

Lucy has chosen to record selected works from the English song repertoire. Interestingly, these divine works are majorly recorded by male (tenor/ bass) voices. A fresh, modern take on this repertoire with a young, lyric soprano voice will act as a refreshing revival.

SUPPORTING A FEMALE COMPOSER:

An accomplished composer (past student of Dr. Jeremy Pike and Professor David Horne), Ms Farrimond was awarded first prize in Chetham’s Biennial Carol Competition (2016) with her piece ‘A Saviour’s Lullaby’. This piece received its premiere in Manchester Cathedral, and appeared on BBC Primetime Programme ‘Christmas City’. Lucy was commissioned to write opening credits for Leigh Film Festival and her piece ‘Sentiment’, for solo euphonium and brass band, was entered into a time capsule in St. Peter’s Square - Manchester (2016), commemorating the completion of the ‘Metrolink’. Recent compositional highlights have included two performances of her piece ‘HER VOICE’ for six upper voices (‘Voices of Women 2023’ / ‘EMPOWER 2024’. Compositional output encompasses repertoire for; romantic orchestra ‘Agnus Dei - 2018’, chamber ensembles, brass band ‘Sentiment - 2017’, a cappella and accompanied choral works and accompanied solo voice ‘Four Songs of Quarantine - Song Cycle - 2020’.

Lucy believes it is incredibly important to champion the works of women composers and encourage the next generation of women composers to follow their dreams! After being told by a fellow student (male) at the age of 17 “But you don’t look like a composer” (insinuating being female), Lucy has seen first hand the stigmatisation of what society has - and somehow still believes - a classical composer should appear. Great strides are being made in the industry, with a focus being made to programme works of underrepresented composers - and Lucy hopes to join this movement and showcase her talent in her upcoming album.
