Finally, there is already a dizzying choice of Proms to choose from on BBC Sounds, but if you didn’t catch it, hear Haydn’s Creation sung by the fresh voices of the Proms Youth Choir, with Omer Meir Wellber, the BBC Philharmonic and some strong soloists, including the young mezzo Lucy Farrimond, who stepped out of the choir to join the principals in their final Amens. Such aplomb.

Now a word of praise for alto Lucy Farrimond, who came out of the chorus to join the three solo singers in the final chorus... I wish to offer my appreciation to Lucy and to her two hundred colleagues in the magnificent, heavenly chorus for the evening.

Of the soloists the laurels surely go to Lord Mountararat (Jordan Harding-Pointon), Iolanthe (Lucy Farrimond), Strephon (Miles Docherty) and Phyllis (Charlotte Kennedy) for the quality of singing throughout.

On winning, Lucy commented “I am so thrilled to have won the Carol Competition. I think my inspiration for writing the piece has come from a childhood surrounded by music...

It was very emotive and passionate writing with a film score quality. Played by Alexandra Webber (violin) and Jasmin Allpress (piano), the piece was 'Une Priere Pour Paris' by Lucy Farrimond.
